SNOW REMOVAL CAN TURN DEADLY FOR NYC PEDESTRIANS

Snow can be beautiful, but it can also prove deadly when it comes to pedestrians encountering snow removal equipment and other vehicles.  According to the FDNY, 12 pedestrians were injured after being hit by vehicles during the snowstorm that hit New York the week of Feb. 10, and there were more than 70 serious motor vehicle accidents in the city caused by the storm.

One fatal pedestrian accident involved a pregnant Brooklyn woman who was killed after being struck by a construction loader driven by a grocery store owner removing snow from the parking lot of his store, according to a news report.

Min Lin, 36, was nine months pregnant with her second child when a Bobcat front loader hit her as she and her husband were loading groceries into their car in the parking lot of the Fei Long Market.  She was pronounced dead at Maimonides Medical Center; her baby was delivered alive via Caesarean section and was in critical condition.

A Brooklyn pedestrian was injured when a snowplow sprayed him with a wall of snow, knocking him off his feet.  A video of the incident went viral, showing the man identified only as “Pedro” being knocked over by the flying snow, which also caused significant damage to the windows of a car dealership.
